INDEX 14 survey points to satisfaction
The rich diversity of nonwoven materials and their applications and the increasingly global nature of the industry are reflected in the findings of an online survey of INDEX 14 exhibitors and visitors.

INDEX 14 was held at Palexpo for the 11th consecutive time from 8th – 11th April 2014 and a record number of exhibitors attended– with figures up by 10% on the previous edition in 2011.

In total, 586 exhibitors from some 41 countries participated in the event.

Exhibitors from Western Europe accounted for 54.5% of total numbers, and the share of floor space they occupied reduced from 68% in 2011 to 61.5% this year due largely to growth in exhibitors from other regions. Echoing geographical market movements these were accounted for by new exhibitors from Asia, most notably from China and Japan, as well as new players from the Middle East and Africa, where the industry is currently developing rapidly.

Not unsurprisingly, the INDEX 14 survey – which was carried out by an independent market research agency – revealed that establishing new customer contacts and meeting existing customers were the key reasons exhibitors booked space at the event. Overall market intelligence gathering and professional networking were also high on agendas.

The satisfaction of exhibitors at having achieved their aims at INDEX 14 was extremely high, with 98% expressing satisfaction:

Visitors seeking new market trends

As seen with the exhibitors, growth was seen in the numbers of visitors from the Asia/Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa at INDEX 14 in compared to the show held three years previously.
Those from Asia represented 9% of the total, compared to 7.4% in 2011. Those attending from Western Europe, accounted for Lion’s share of visitors, accounting for almost 65% of all visitors.

The key reasons given for visiting the show were to meet new suppliers and to learn about new market trends and products. Again, satisfaction with the event was extremely high.

Some 96% of visitors said they were satisfied with INDEX 14

A broader scope

An increasing number of INDEX 14 visitors were from companies involved in the supply chain for durable applications for nonwoven products, such as Automotive (25% of visitors), Packaging and Filtration. Nonetheless, the event remains a crucial platform for the hygiene industry, which accounted for 44.2 % of total visitors, with 28% involved in the wipes industry and 22% belonging to the medical supply chain sector.

Finally, 86% of visitors questioned said they were likely to visit the next edition of INDEX in 2017, which will take place once again at Palexpo in Geneva from 4th – 7th April 2017.
